March 18

9:03 a.m., a guest at the Sunset Motel, 1755 Beach Loop, was in need of medical assistance. He cannot talk, unknown why. Rendered assistance and called ambulance.

11:28 a.m., report from the Oregon State Police advising a subject possibly brandishing a weapon from a motor home near U.S. Highway 101 and Bullards Beach State Park. Checked the area, unable to locate.

12:48 p.m., 59-year-old female requested an officer to come to her residence in the 800 block of Chicago Avenue to look at a suspicious letter.

12:06 p.m., OSP advised an older blue Ford Ranger with an erratic driver was northbound on U.S. Highway 101 from Curry County. Information was relayed to officer on duty.

March 19


11:11 a.m., an abandoned vehicle was reported on 10th and Harrison. Tagged a blue Volvo for a 72-hour tow.

1:17 p.m., a 74-year-old man failed to pay for taxi service in the 1200 block of June Avenue.

1:30 p.m., a 76-year-old man hanged himself, committing suicide, in the 47000 block of U.S. Highway 101. Handled by the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.

2:40 p.m., report of two dogs in a black Saturn with the windows rolled up, parked behind the VA clinic.

2:55 p.m., possible ID theft on Oregon Avenue. Subject’s son took money out of his account. Son’s name is on the account, bank allowed unauthorized deduction/breach of contract. Father is listed as the payee on the son’s account due to diminished capacity.

5:24 p.m., a welfare check was requested in the 3800 block of Grant Place. Wife requested check. Husband is not home, the neighbor will give him the message to call his wife when he returns.


10:51 p.m., arrested Kirk W. Zumwalt, 38, of Coquille, at the Arcade Tavern, 135 Alabama St., on a Coquille Tribal Police warrant charging probation violation and driving under the influence of intoxicants. Zumwalt was lodged at the Coos County jail, no bail.

March 20

4:32 a.m., report of a suspicious subject in the 500 block of U.S. Highway 101. Subject was wearing dark clothes and carrying garbage bags.

7:42 a.m., Reese Electric on 275 Fillmore Ave., reports two windows were broken.

8:16 a.m., report of criminal mischief in the 1300 block of Beach Loop Drive.

8:54 a.m., ex-girlfriend took subject’s clothing on Harvard Street. Police will call the ex-girlfriend.


9:01 a.m., a broken window was reported in the 700 block of Second Street.

10:57 a.m., subject advised a male driving a blue Chevy pickup attempted to cut him off in the 1300 block of Oregon Avenue. Male driver was cited for careless driving.

11 a.m., criminal mischief was reported in the 700 block of Second Street Southeast.

11 a.m., subject advised her daughter from Canada is supposed to be staying at the Surfer Sands in the 900 block of Second Street, what used to be the former sandwich shop in Old Town. Subject has not heard from her in several days. Not a valid address or location.

11:04 a.m., welfare check in the 900 block of Second Street Southwest. Unable to locate.

11:54 a.m., subject reports her son lost his wallet, possibly at the beach. It contained his Oregon ID, Social Security card and $137 in cash.


2:59 p.m., Lord Bennett’s, 1695 Beach Loop Drive, reports a window was shot out.

3:48 p.m., report of criminal mischief in the 1200 block of Seventh Street. Report taken.

4:35 p.m., employee at a gas station in the 400 block of Second Street Southeast requests assistance, a customer is unable to pay for gas. Subject will stand by until a friend arrives from Coos Bay to pay for the gas. Subject was warned not to drive because his license in suspended.

March 21

2:29 a.m., subject called for Chief Webb, wouldn’t give his last name, and hung up. On recall, he stated he was intoxicated and trying to contact his mother for a ride home. Subject was provided an escort.

7:31 a.m., third-hand party reports four rapid shots fired on Harvard and Harlem streets. Incident occurred in the county.

8:58 a.m., female caller on a cell phone reports a 2007 Toyota Camry passed subject on a blind corner. The vehicle was located at a traffic stop and the driver was warned.

9:00 a.m., report from a caretaker of a window shot out at a home in the 700 block of Beach Loop Drive. Report taken, approximate damage value is $200.

12:45 p.m., caller from Bandon Medical Clinic, 110 10th St. S.E., requested an officer to escort a person under mental distress from the lobby. Subject was gone before officers arrival.

2:27 p.m., female caller on a cell phone reports four people on Flat Rock, possibly stranded by high water. They were at the park on the south end of Bandon with a lot of steps down to the beach, near the Best Western Motel. Not sure if caller is talking about Face Rock or Coquille Point waysides. Everything appears fine in the area.

5:17 p.m., male on a bike with a dog fell over and is intoxicated. He got back up and continued on U.S. Highway 101. He refused medical help and entered his home. He was advised to stay off the road.

9:01 p.m., male subject on a bike was harassing caller’s daughter on Elmira and 11th streets. No crime occurred.

9:29 p.m., report of a reckless driver on Beach Loop Road driving a black Escalade. Vehicle is parked near the Sunset Motel. Checked the area, unable to locate.

March 22

8:15 a.m., male on 12th Street Southeast off Ohio Avenue reports neighbor burning in the back yard. Unable to locate illegal burn, just some smoke from chimneys.

5:03 p.m., 38-year-old male reports ATVs trespassing on his property on U.S. Highway 101 and 18th Street.

6:49 p.m., possible dispute in the 800 block of Oregon Avenue at a white trailer with red trim behind Price ‘n’ Pride. No crime, subject is just intoxicated.

7:16 p.m., report of a possible intoxicated driver in a Jetta on U.S. Highway 101 and 19th Street. Stopped vehicle, not as reported.

March 23

8:58 a.m., two missing dogs reports in the 900 block of Elmira Avenue. One is a male, black and while Alaskan malamute and the other is a male chocolate lab, both dogs are friendly. Information sent to Bandon Police and animal control office.

11:15 a.m., citizen flagdown, advised a vehicle is on its top in the ditch. No one is in or around the vehicle. The vehicle was towed. Attempted to locate the owner, unable to locate.

5:12 p.m., ambulance crew requested assistance with an out-of-control patient at Harmony Estates, 87326 McTimmons Lane. A man with a walker was running away and very aggressive.

7:38 p.m., a welfare check was requested on a subject in metal distress. He is screaming at himself. Spoke with the subject and his father. His father will check on him tomorrow. Referred to mental health.

9:01 p.m., welfare check in the 200 block of Indiana. Everything is fine, the call was unfounded.

9:51 p.m., a verbal disturbance was reported in the 900 block of Elmira Street. Contacted both parties, no assault occurred. Transported the male to Shooting Star Motel.

10:52 p.m., elderly woman in a white car appears disoriented on Second and Harlem. She may be having a diabetic problem. Ambulance responded to check her out and assisted in getting her home.

March 24

4:24 p.m., a non-injury vehicle accident occurred at Bandon City Park. Driver’s information was exchanged.

5:18 p.m., a small brown dog was reported running at large in the area of the post office on 12th Street. Officer got dog back in the yard, unable to make contact with the owner.

5:43 p.m., report of a small child operating a motorcycle in the 1000 block of First Street Southeast. Checked the area, unable to locate.

7:05 p.m., ambulance crew requested lifting assistance. The ambulance was on the scene in the 87000 block of east Beach Loop Drive.

7:26 p.m., the theft of a checkbook was reported in the Bandon area. Subject called back, he found his checkbook where he dropped it.

March 25

5:41 a.m., report of a dog barking for hours in the 100 block of 13th Street Southwest.

1:00 p.m., report of teenage drivers speeding in the area of the baseball field on June and Second streets. Officer conducted traffic enforcement in the area, no violations were observed.

8:48 p.m., two male juveniles came to subject’s apartment in the 200 block of S.E. Ninth Street, looking for a female. Both were carrying open cans of beer. Unable to locate.

9:01 p.m., report of a dog barking at a neighbors home. Dog was not barking upon officer arrival, residence is in the county. Sent information to animal control.

11:22 p.m., a female in a motel in the 800 block of Beach Loop Road reports a male and female disturbance in a nearby room. Contacted the male subject, the female subject had left for the night.
