» Motivational sports speaker to give talks

A well-known motivational sports speaker, Bruce Brown of Seattle, will give talks for athletes and parents on Friday and Saturday at the Marshfield High School Auditorium in Coos Bay.

Bandon High School Athletic Director James Freitag said, “I hope that parents and players will take advantage of this opportunity to go and improve themselves as individuals by listening to this speaker. He’s a very dynamic speaker who gives talks all around the country — based on more than 30 years of experience as a coach and athletic director from the middle school through college levels.”

Brown will speak on the parents’ role in athletics beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. He’ll give a talk for athletes beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, then will offer a presentation for captains/team leaders at 10 a.m. There is no admission charge for any of the sessions.

Brown is in the second year of a three-year contract for speaking in several different cities around the state each year. He spoke at North Bend last year.

Brown’s talks are sponsored by the Oregon Athletic Directors Association and Bi-Mart.

“This is a great opportunity for parents to get some insight on how to help their kids be their most successful,” Freitag said. “And for players, he talks about the athlete’s mindset, about being a team player, and about getting the most out of the athletic experience and the most benefit down the road.” Brown is known to stay after his presentations to answer questions on a one-on-one basis, Freitag noted.
