» City considers garbage rate hike

Bandon’s garbage rates may be going up soon.

But take heart, all that extra garbage created from Thanksgiving Day will have room in your trash can.

Bandon Disposal and Recycling has announced it will start holiday pickups for Bandon residents. That means on any holiday falling on a Tuesday or Thursday (Bandon’s regular garbage pickup days) your garbage will be picked up, as usual.

The rate increase is another story.

A public hearing regarding the proposed increase of Bandon Disposal’s garbage collection and disposal rates will be held before the Bandon City Council at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, in City Council chambers.

The requested increase is for a 2.78 percent cost-of-living/inflation adjustment to existing rates. Anyone interested in commenting on the proposed rates may appear at the public hearing and be heard, or may submit written comments or obtain additional information by contacting City Manager Matt Winkel at 347-2437, ext. 229, or e-mail citymanager@ci.bandon.or.us.
