» Museum displays Christmas village

The Bandon Historical Society Museum invites the community to enjoy its colorful lighted Christmas village display during regular museum hours through Christmas Eve.

The extensive Dept. 56 collection is on loan for the holiday season from Christine Lovelock of Coos Bay.

“We hope you will stop in and enjoy this old-time town that features numerous homes and businesses, Christmas trees, holiday shoppers, ice skaters, old cars, an airplane, a water wheel and much more in a variety of delightful snowy village scenes,” said Kathy Dornath, Historical Society president.

The museum also is selling locally-made Douglas fir wreaths again this year as a fundraiser. Decorated with cones and bows, the wreaths cost $20 and will be available until they’re sold out.

“We also have a nice selection of items in the museum gift shop that would be great for Christmas gifts,” Dornath said. “These include our 2009 historical photo calendar with interesting pictures of early Bandon.”

Gift certificates are available. Dornath added that second graders from Ocean Crest Elementary School are scheduled to visit the museum at 2 p.m. today (Dec. 11) to decorate museum Christmas trees.

The museum is located at U.S. Highway 101 and Fillmore Avenue Southeast at the downtown stoplight. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
