Funeral services for David Ervin Porter, 59, of Dickinson, N.D., a former Bandon resident, were held June 27 in Carson City Park in Carson, N.D.

Serving as honorary casketbearer were his daughter, Angel Porter-Stewart. Active casketbearers were his sons, Lance, Dewey and Josh Porter; his brothers, Gary Porter and Herman Porter; his nephews Justin and Brandon Bertch; and friend, Dave Bertch.

David was born in Plad, Mo., on Jan.17, 1950, to Dewey and Helen (Karr) Porter. He died June 23, 2009, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Watford City, N.D. The Porter family moved to Devils Lake, N.D., and then to Carson when David was very young. David attended school in Carson graduating with the Class of 1968. He attended one year of college at Dickinson State on a football scholarship. He then began working in the oil fields. He married Diane Wallum on April 6, 1972, at Circle, Mont., and continued working in the oil fields in many midwestern states.

A passion of David’s was golfing and fishing. He owned his own boat, the Angel LaRee, which he used to fish commercially off the coasts of Washington, Oregon and Alaska. He especially enjoyed crab fishing. He lived in Bandon for several years while he was working as a commercial fisherman.

David returned to Dickinson, where he again began working in the oil fields in North Dakota and Colorado as a consultant.

Surviving family members include his wife, Diane of Dickinson, N.D.; sons Lance Porter of North Bend; Dewey (Theresa) Porter of Vandnais Heights, Minn., and Josh Porter, Bismarck, N.D.; daughter, Angel Porter-Stewart (Josh) of Wahpeton, N.D.; grandchildren, Rachel, Anna, Tanner and Bowen; mother-in-law, Arlene Arndt of Leith, N.D.; sister Kathy (Alvin) Ternes of Mandan, N.D.; brothers, Gary (Tasha) Porter of Belleville, Ill., and Herman (Laura) Porter of Louisberg, Mo.; and nine nephews and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Allen Porter and his grandparents, Dewey and Lena Porter, and Althur and Mae Karr.
