The police report is compiled daily from the public record log of the Bandon Police Department and the Coos County Sheriff’s Office. Information represents initial reports and not completed investigations, arrests or convictions.

Bandon Police

Jan. 19

10 a.m., issued Salvation Army utility assistance vouchers to citizens at the police department.

10:35 a.m., took a theft report from South Coast Auto Wrecking, U.S. Highway 101 South; a Craftsman generator was stolen.

3:28 p.m., a business on 10th Street Southeast reported receiving several bad checks; letter to be sent to check writer. 5:37 p.m., received information that a woman was driving in the Bandon area without using a required breath analysis device in the vehicle.

6:11 p.m., arrested Christopher Branham, 27, address unavailable, on two Lane County warrants charging failure to appear; taken to the Coos County jail.

Jan. 20

8:12 a.m., a man was yelling and banging on the door of the Bandon Veterinary Clinic on Second Street Southeast; had lost his dog, but found it later.

8:53 a.m., someone complained that a vehicle he sold had been paid for with a bad check; the vehicle was reported to be en route toward Bandon from Port Orford; he was advised to contact his local police department or county sheriff’s office; the vehicle was located by an officer at Highway 101 and Second Street.

12:30 p.m., someone reported that a disturbance had occurred in the area of the 1100 block of Jackson Avenue at about 2 a.m.; was advised to call when the incident is occurring; logged for patrol checks. 4:02 p.m., a June Avenue resident reported receiving a scam letter/check in the mail; forwarded to Oregon Department of Justice.

Jan. 21

5:54 p.m., possible probation violation on Parkersburg Road; unable to locate.

9:17 p.m., a woman in a vehicle on Strawberry Drive was reported to be in distress; transported to Southern Coos Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance.

11:08 p.m., two people were fighting in the area of Highway 101 and state Highway 42S; unable to locate.

Jan. 22

4:59 a.m., single-vehicle non-injury accident near mile post 2 on Highway 42S; preference tow by Mast Bros. Towing; driver escorted home.

6:09 p.m., an old trailer burned on property off Highway 101S; fire department paged but not needed.

8:54 a.m., following a traffic stop at 145 Second St. S.E., cited a local man on a charge of driving while suspended (misdemeanor).

3:15 p.m., a ring was found at the post office on 12th Street Southeast.

6:58 p.m., alarm sounding at Bandon Supply, 1120 Fillmore Ave. S.E.; located unsecured interior door.

8:32 p.m., assisted a deputy on a traffic accident near Rosa Road and Astor Street.

Jan. 23

10:57 a.m., a resident of the 300 block of Michigan Avenue reported the theft of a recreational vehicle battery.

2:14 p.m., two dogs at-large in the vicinity of Highway 101 and 10th Street were taken to the shelter by an animal control officer.

6:59 p.m., a local man was banned from the Quarterdeck Lounge, 1032 Oregon Ave.

7:48 p.m., arrested Rocky Callaway, 48, of Bandon at the Quarterdeck Lounge, 1032 Oregon Ave., on a charge of second-degree criminal trespass.

Jan. 24

12:11 p.m., investigated a family dispute in the 800 block of 12th Street Southwest.

12:37 p.m., alarm sounding at Bank of America, 1110 Oregon Ave.; unable to locate any problem.

1:27 p.m., investigated a dispute in the 800 block of 12th Street Southwest; parties separated.

6:10 p.m., alarm at Bandon Beds & Furniture, 255 Michigan Ave.; problem with rear door due to weather.

Jan. 25

9:20 a.m., following casual contact at Highway 101 and Eighth Street, cited a Coquille man on a charge of driving while suspended (misdemeanor revoked); vehicle removed by Mast Bros. Towing.

1:26 p.m., suspicious vehicle behind apartments on Harvard Street; was a family moving into the area.

Jan. 26

3:00 a.m., lobby motion alarm at Bank of America, 1110 Oregon Ave.; building secure.

County Sheriff

Jan. 19

12:26 p.m., a citizen advised that a disabled vehicle would be left overnight near the intersection of Seven Devils Road and Randolph Road; owner contact information was provided.

11:19 p.m., residential alarm in the 54000 block of Morrison Road; logged.

Jan. 20

8:04 a.m., a Morrison Road resident reported having problems with his alarm system; advised dispatch to disregard if alarm company calls.

2:25 p.m., people were reported going door-to-door on Rosa Road selling seafood and steaks; advertising appeared unprofessional; possibly not legitimate; info to local officer.

6:43 p.m., high surf advisory extended through Jan. 21.

Jan. 21

4:28 p.m., checked a suspicious vehicle near Seven Devils Road and Beaver Hill.

Jan. 22

8:05 a.m., suspicious circumstances involving a dead goat left near a residence on Bear Creek Road; logged.

9:03 a.m., gave information on obtaining restraining orders to a person at the Bandon Police Department.

2:09 p.m., neighborhood dispute on Edna Lane; report taken, investigation continuing.

3:12 p.m., welfare check on Brown Lane; person okay, will call friend.

8:19 p.m., a 2002 Mazda minivan struck a street sign, a power pole and two mailboxes at the intersection of Rosa Road and Astor Lane; paged ambulance and fire department; police found an open container of beer in the driver's area of the van; the driver, Czarina Housego, 18, of Bandon was contacted by officers at her residence on Fourth Street Southeast and was arrested on charges of failure to perform the duties of a driver (hit and run), third-degree criminal mischief, minor in possession of alcohol and having an open container of alcohol; she was taken to jail; the vehicle was removed by North Bend Towing.

Jan. 23

11:33 a.m., two people walking on Bullards Beach reported being bitten by a dog.

3:13 p.m., high wind warning for Jan. 24 and 25; info to law enforcement and media.

7 p.m., assisted a citizen on Prosper Junction Road.

Jan. 24

5:11 a.m., high surf advisory until 10 p.m. on Jan. 25; info to law enforcement and media.

11:51 a.m., large black cow at-large on Bates Road; logged.

Jan. 25

5:44 a.m., medical emergency on McTimmons Lane; transferred call to Bay Cities Ambulance.

9:11 a.m., identity theft report from a resident of Windhurst Lane.

2:47 p.m., security check at Rocky Point boat ramp.

State Police

Jan. 17

6:30 p.m., a westbound motorist near mile post 8.5 on Highway 42S was unable to maneuver his 1992 BMW sedan around a rockslide; the car rolled over and slid off the road, coming to rest on its roof on the westbound shoulder. The driver, Stephen M. Smith, 50, of Gold Beach was taken via ambulance to Coquille Valley Hospital; the Oregon Department of Transportation and Mast Bros. Towing removed the boulders and the overturned vehicle.
