» Coastal Harvest holds Cake Walk

Coastal Harvest will hold its sixth-annual Valentine’s Cake Walk from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Bandon Community Youth Center 101 S.W. 11th St.

Organizer Lyn Silverman said there will be four cake walks an hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, tickets will be sold at the door for 25 cents each or five tickets for $1 for activities including children’s face painting, a coloring contest for ages 3 to 10, Valentine making and cookie decorating. Those attending can bring a can of food or non-perishable item and get a free ticket for one of the above activities.

There also will be a 50/50 donation drawing, (tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5) and a silent auction and bake sale. Volunteers are needed to donate baked goods, supplies, silent auction and door prizes and to help at the cake walk.

Coastal Harvest is a gleaners group that helps low-income people with food security. Members volunteer eight hours a month and receive a box of food every Wednesday. The organization meets on Wednesday mornings only in the Seventh-day Adventist Church at 10th Street and Elmira Avenue in Bandon.

“Coastal Harvest gives a hand up, not just a hand out,” Silverman said.
