Margarett Jean Smith

March 17, 1925 – Jan. 25, 2010

Margarett was born on St.Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1925, in McMinnville, to Edward and Opal (Harrington) Dulley. She died Jan. 25, 2010.

She was a member of the Applegate Clan and lived in Oregon all of her life. She graduated from Lebanon High School and married her sweetheart, Calvin Jennings. Cal was killed July 18, 1944, in the battle of Cherbourg after surviving D-Day, only two months after their son, Calvin Glen Jennings, was born. Margarett then married John Willis, a Marine wounded on Okinawa, and had a daughter, Peggy Willis and John adopted Glen.

Margarett later married Cortland Smith and they purchased a farm near Prosper. She loved animals of all kinds, mainly horses and also Scottish Highlander cattle. She retired from Georgia-Pacific after 20 years at the Coquille plywood plant. She then went to work at the Bandon Post Office.

She retired after many years as a rural route driver. Margarett is survived by her son, Glen Willis; daughter, Peggy Wilson; grandsons, Michael Willis and Shawn Wilson; granddaughter, Trisha Johnson; and several great-grandchildren.

Her family would like to thank Kelli Painter, our special caretaker and her family for all the years of helping and taking care of Margarett and all her critters.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Pacific Cove Humane Society, P.O. Box 361, North Bend, OR 97459.

Arrangements are under the direction of Myrtle Grove Funeral Service, 541-396-3158.
