A Curry County grand jury has indicted a Pacific High School teacher on prostitution and misconduct charges after a weeklong investigation by sheriff’s deputies.
Schools officials contacted the Curry County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, Jan. 22, after a female student said woodshop teacher Charles Klea had offered her money to have sex with him, sheriff’s Detective Dave Gardiner said.
The girl refused his advances more than once and told school officials what happened. Deputies interviewed teachers and students, then presented the results of their investigation to the Curry County District Attorney’s Office this week.
Prosecutors arraigned Klea, 48, Friday in Gold Beach on charges, including two counts of prostitution and two counts of first-degree official misconduct. After appearing in court, he went to Curry County jail, where he was booked and released.
Klea has been teaching at Pacific High School since 2007, having previously taught at a public high school in Phoenix, Ariz.
